You may remember the Jolla, a company which was founded by ex Nokia employees. Jolla had announced their smartphone running their own Sailfish OS, last year. Now, Jolla has launched the smartphone in India as well at a competitive price of ₹16499.

Jolla Smartphone is innovative in its design and functionality. It runs the Sailfish OS which has been developed by Jolla themselves. It is Open Source platform which is compatible with Android Apps as well. The Sailfish OS is completely gesture oriented, which allows users to interact with the smartphone but everything in a different manner as to what we have seen until today. For example you can swipe from left to right to get to the home screen and you can swipe from bottom to top to take a “peek” at the notifications. For me, it seems like a hybrid of the Blackberry OS and Android, a sort of “best of both worlds”.

Underneath the rectangular body of the Smartphone, there is a 1.4GHz processor in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC, 1GB RAM, and  16GB internal memory which can be increased using a microSD slot. It has a 4.5″qHD display with a resolution of 960×540 pixels, with Gorilla Glass 2 protecting it. There is an 8MP camera with autofocus and LED flash in the back, and a 2MP secondary camera. It comes with a user replaceable battery which will last for upto 10 hours of talk time. Connectivity -wise, the Jolla smartphone has 3G,and 4G LTE, WiFi, and Bluetooth 4.0.

Another interesting feature of the Jolla smartphone is their unique design. It looks like to rectangular blocks snapped on to each other. Infact, the rear panel/block can be removed to reveal the user replaceable battery, Micro Sim tray, and the MicroSD car slot. But that’s not all. Jolla also provides something called ‘The Other Half Developer Kit’. It essentially lets you configure not just the look of the phone, but you can even modify the hardware as well. You can even configure/modify the camera, rear solar screen on the back, print your own cover in 3D, and so on.

Jolla is selling their smartphone in India exclusively through the e-commerce site Snapdeal. Click “here” to take you to Snapdeal.
